Are there any plans to make an import tool for suunto watch data?

Note to forum managers if you're watching!! Here's a second vote for this type of data feed import...

We are watching, unfortunately there seems to be very few users who are actually using this device and a quick look at Suunto's website shows a lack of any developer documentation. This would make implementation of an importer both difficult and only helpful for a few users. However we will reconsider if there's demand :)

please add suunto t6c as an option. current calendar/training plans are poor in suunto software. I'm sure this would be a popular combo

mapmyrun.com is a superb app. Please add import from / integration with Suunto Training Manager Lite. This is the standard Suunto package for downloading training logs from T4's etc. Would be a big bonus as would avoid users having to buy and carry a Suunto GPS pod, will give more accurate distance and add contour detail

Here is another vote. I use the Sunto T6 with HRM and GPS armband for all my runs and it would be great to import the data. From a developers perspective it is possible to export the files from Sunto Training Manager in three formats that might be used for upload XML, CSV, and Sunto SDF.

Have MapMyRun actually contacted Suunto with regard to this, this site will be perfect for me if you can sort this and it would be good to know to what level you have looked into this?

Yes, I have also been using Mapmyride to log training (runs, rides hikes) and use a Suunto X10. It would be fantastic if MMR could develop a Suunto import tool. I would consider changing my membership to "Premium" if they got this sorted.

I have contacted Suunto and mapmyfitness directly about this and disappointingly have not had a response from either about this.

Is there any update on this as a lot of people are interested in this.

Sorry for all the edits it keeps picking up additional formatting from somewhere how wierd.

Seems like mapmyfitness would benefit more, with possibly more premium users if such a Suunto application were on the site.  It'd be very nice to import Suunto data directly (i.e-heart rate data) so it doesn't have to be manually entered each time logging a workout.  The type of file that should be imported to mapmyfitess, and I believe to speak for most on this thread, is .SDF (Suunto Data File), which is what workout data can be exported as from Firstbeat ATHLETE and Suunto Traning Manager.

There is actually a long way to import .SDF into mapmyfitness by converting them to .HRM, but some of the data is lost in translation.

With this application below, you can convert a Suunto .XML file (with .SDF as source) into a Polar .HRM file

    http://f1.grp.yahoofs.com/v1/wEKUSiWrFQUlPZr1LhZ00-w6UobTBrWFBPbMFT53J6Hh13YEIPk4vGoijsTmt-KCE_UUq3SznH2Yap0CGn_RfAx9WsbZFTp3MNcc4qU/t6%20Tools/Sx2Ph.exe

In Suunto Training Manager, you export to .STE, which can be unzipped/unrarred to .xml.  Then you can use the application above to convert to .HRM.  This is too much to do though after EVERY work out. Plus, you lose some of the data from the original SDF file.

So please, mapmyfitness.  Save us from this long workaround.

and yet aother vote. Suunto is a top tier HRM and cycling computer brand - if MMF is serious about its future it simply has to add compatibility.

any update when I say update I actually mean responce from MMF on this as there is a reasonable demand and you haven't commented either way?

Depending on the complexity involved I'll lobby for this when we look at the import engine. There is no immediate timeframe for this happening, and there's no guarantee that Suunto will be put in.

People, if you want them to work on adding Suunto import capabilities then help MMF out a bit.

I used my t3 and Training Manager Lite, which does, in fact, export to an .SDF file, to export the below data.

I don't own the GPS pod so that data is not available in my sample training run below but someone should be able to add to this by simply exporting their GPS data into an .SDF file. Open it in Notepad/Textpad and copy and paste the info in another message here.

A proper data dictionary would need to be supplied by Suunto or other enterprising user here so that we can provide an easy way for MMF to convert the data file to their own format. I've given it a shot.

just to follow up to what someone characterized as "reasonable demand" to add Suunto import capabilities -- a typical developers time = $60 per hour

figure this will take two (2) developers around 40 hours work minimum for each to: read, learn, plan, code, integrate, test, and deploy.

    2 x 40 x 60= $4800

figure an overhead and cost of delivery of 25% raw dev costs and it is closer to: $6000 to get this to us.

I count 16 people here who have responded. Typical paying customers = around 1-5% for online services. Where incremental ad revenue may account for a barely registered bump.

Unless MMF sees an overwhelming number of paying customers asking for this (e.g., everyone here + another 50), it is not likely that this will be prioritized. So, do not hold your breath and try not to beat up the forum manager too much.

Hi, just registering as another Suunto fan (t4c) and would love to see an Importer built. It doesn't make sense to be a paying customer of MapMyRun without it and although I see your point around commercials, bringing data into one system (MMR) is what will create massive value. I hope this gets more support as Suunto has a lot of fans. Perhaps if you add a section on registration to see what devices/brands your members use, you could have use this intelligence to market the respective importer to them and get them to upgrade - I doubt many members will be proactive enough to search through forums.
