aldiara88 - I know howyou feel. Went to breakfast with my mum, afternoon tea with the mother in law, so had to go for a run afterwards. Happy mothers day to all. In Oz we have Mothers Day runs in all big cities to raise cash for Breast Cancer research. Was a great sight to see all the women running!!!
Did 2 laps of a 9.78km loop (total 19.56km) in 1.33.20. I negative split the second lap which is most pleasing . It was my longest run since last years marathon and it felt quite comfortable. Have signed up for a half in June, so I am hoping to beat 100 mins, which I should at current rate
Havent' been on in a week. Just finished 11 miles at a 9:15 pace. I took it easier than normal. Exactly 2 weeks until my wife and I run the two person relay for the Burlington City Marathon. I will say the new bike and cross-training with it is really helping my speed.
Been a good weekend, I got 10k in on Saturday Feels good to run with no pains (first time since the last race) then on sunday I headed to the Gym for a little weight training. All in all a good weekend
I had my month mark as a beginner. I haven't ran since highshool p e. I just completed 4.65miles today! I stopped probably for 4 times to take a breath. I just got over a week ago asthma triggered by allergies that turned into a respiratory congestion. I needed to take two inhalers, which never happened to me before! I was scared that this would waiver my motivation to run. But today, proved that even though I didn't walk nor run for four days because of this congestion and asthma, it won't stop me! I am preparing for a 1/2 marathon on Labor Day in Wisconsin. Any information on what to do on my rest days would be appreciated!
Getting back in to the swing of things. My IT band is feeling much better and I am now able to get out and run again. I'm still careful with how my knee area feels but as long as there is no pain or swelling I'm going to keep pushing.
4 miles in 32:48... pretty good considering the time I have had to take off to heal.
Leaving wednesday for the BigXII championships in boulder! My one last chance to salvage my season and boulder is going to be a tough place to do it.

This morning I did my first run since the Mini last Saturday, 2.82 in 26:10. Felt ok during the run, but my left shin/lower calf hurt all day afterwards. I hadn't had any shin pain in 2 or 3 days, but I guess that was not enough to fully heal. Guess I give it another week of rest and ice and get some quality time in on the bike. Being injured S***S!
Well after my sickness last week, I had a weekend away in Seattle, so the long and short of it is that tonight was my first run in about a week. Sheesh - no more slacking for me! I did 6k, bit more of a challenge than usual, minor stitch, sore knee, jelly legs... I was running at about 9.17min/mile so my pace wasn't as bad as I had thought but one week off and man did I feel it (or perhaps it was the bloody mary's and beer yesterday tee he he). Back on the wagon for me I think!
The weirdest thing was Saturday and Sunday night I was suffering from really bad twitchy legs that made it hard to sleep - does anyone else get 'restless legs' when they aren't running? I'm hoping that's all it was and tonight I'm sleeping as usual!

Regular session. Did the 3.8km warm up in 17.03. This is getting ridiculous!!! Plan today was 4x500m efforts with 1 min standing rest in between. DId them at about 1.55 average which I was quite happy with. Finished with a couple of 250m uphill runs, I did them in 50 and 49 but felt horrible doing them, I felt I had cashed in all my petrol tickets on the earlier efforts.
Riding and netball tomorrow, then next running session on Thursday. Catch you then
Aldiara - try a little vaseline or body glide on your arches while you break in those shoes. I do it on all my long runs...just to be safe...and I lube my toes before intervals.
8X880 intervals today plus 5.3 miles easy. Dropped 5 sec. off my personal best today...but had a hard time holding the intensity for those last three intervals. Only two more weeks to go for Yasso's!!!

Hi all! Checking in again as it's been a while. I have been a loyal reader of your posts over the past several weeks. Since I am still in the "rest" mode I don't have much to post about my own efforts. Turns out, that I broke my toe about a week after my marathon. You will love how it happened.....I opened our top-mount freezer and a travel ice pack (which was hard as a rock) slid out of the door shelf (while I was peering in the back to see if we had any ice cream) and landed square on my pinky toe. The entire quadrant of my foot turned black and blue in two days. Timing is everything in life.......if that was ever going to happen to me....it might as well be then. I started hitting the gym last week to kick-start circuit training and to ride the bike. My first run will be this Saturday. I plan on going about 4 miles.....and will then see how the toe feels. It has been healing fairly well so I am not expecting it to be a problem.
I am getting the itch reading about you all hitting the next milestone in your programs. I hope to return the favor in a few months. Keep it coming.
It's been a crazy week at work but I've still managed to get my running in. Now that I have a pretty good base I crave the time spent running.
Tuesday Morning: 5.44 mile loop in 52 minutes. Attacked the upsides on the bridge. Best mile (on the downside on the bridge) 7:14. It was a glorious cool morning for a run.
Wednesday Morning: Another beautifully cool morning perfect for a 4 mile recovery run. Finished strong and I think that I could have gone out harder. (but then it wouldn't be a recovery run would it?)
westconn : Bummer about the toe. But I'm glad to here that you able to get back out and play. Ice cream will do it everytime. It's dangerous stuff. _______________________________________________________________________
Sorry to hear about your toe westconn - that'll l teach you about foraging for ice cream!!! I just went for a regular run tonight - needed to burn off a bit of a bad mood - so did 7.5k in 43 mins. Not overly impressed as my speed seems to have dropped a little and again I had a niggling stitch, my breathing seemed a little out of control, I just didn't have that same smooth run that I had been. Can I have really lost all that from one week off sick? Is it purely psychological? Is it just a bit of a plateau? I'll battle through it whatever it is, just a bit disappointed that's all. Last time I take a week off, I tells ya!

10 mile run in 1:56...3 one mile tempo's with 1/2 mile easy between... Lite rain felt good. Took ten minutes off my previous ten mile training time. Still slow but if I keep improving...maybe I can do a descent Half in October.

Wow, I've been following your discussions for a couple days, but I was a little hesitant to join in. What a great forum, though! I'm a pretty new runner. I ran my first Half in October, my first full in November, and now I'm training for another Half in two and a half weeks. It's going to be a pretty quick train for the Half (only 1 pre-race 10 miler, I know, I kind of squeezed the Half in there :-), but I'm looking forward to it, and I've been running steadily for the last two months.
I had to laugh a bit at all your previous "hill" discussions. I'm in Seattle, so all we have are hills! I was joking about it with a friend last night while running, that ALL our workouts are hill workouts.

Evers - Just like real estate, Location, Location Location. All you have are hills and all I have here in Indianapolis is flat. The closest thing to a hill for miles around my house are two interstate overpasses.
Still letting my shin recuperate. Had the day off work and did some cross-training by way of hauling mulch and mowing the lawn. Not exactly sure how to count the miles for that. No desire to determine how many laps across the yard equals a mile. The mulching is definitely good core work.

Sorry to hear about the toe Westconn. Don't push yourself to get back on it. Let it heal. If you get back to running too early you might have more problems down the road that will plague you for years. At least that's what my wife (the dr.) tells me about such things.

Had my long run tonight - today was so beautiful I was psyched about going for my run all day! I hadn't quite realised how hot it was tho - 19degrees celsius. MAN... that was the hardest - the heat just sapped every calorie and ounce of strength. A couple of times I had to stop in the shade for a minute or so to rehydrate and cool down. It ended up at 11k in 67 mins... I much prefer it when it's a bit cooler with a bit of breez.

LSD 13.2 miles in 2:39...12 min/mile. Took it really easy never breathed hard...stayed on the border of Zone 2 and 3. I can do the Half Mary distance...now I just need to work on some speed before October. Perfect temp this morning just under 50F, overcast and a cool breeze.
After my 4 mile recovery run tomorrow, I will have completed my first 40 mile week....and 100 miles this month! Knees feel good...

Be careful, take care of those twinges with some ice and rest. As you gain fitness your body adapts at different paces. First heart and lungs, then muscle, then ligaments and tendons. When your lungs feel like you can push harder...you can injure your muscles, etc.... I was where you are in November and had Patella tendinitis in December. I'm still not a runner, but I am a jogger and I'm GOING to be a runner!
Had a fall on the bike riding to work on Wednesday so have been a bit quiet. Went for my long run about 19.5km. Did it a little slower than last week, still feeling some soreness. I will ride to work tomorrow and should be fine.

Ran the Healthy Kidney 10K yesterday and did great!!!!! Ran it in 55:34, PB for me(although i only have 1 other 10k to base it on). I was so inspired by it that I bumped my normal run to 5.1 miles today, which i did in a shade under 53 minutes. I was taking it easy, after yesterday's run. In other news, I am in the lottery for the NYC half marathon in july, but i have begun training as if i am already in it. This was another reason to bump my normal run up to 5 miles. anyway, hope to see everyone out on the trail/street/track/park.

Just finished 12.4miler today at 1hr 47min 12sec in other words I ran it at an 8:40 pace. I so friggin' happy right now. I'm still 220lbs, but I feel in better shape than I've been in years. I don't think I'll be down to 200lbs for my 1/2 marathon next Sunday, but I know I'll beat my previous time of 2hrs 2mins.
To those of you injured. Take it easy. I learned that when something hurts, no matter what it is; take as many days off as you ran. If you ran 3 miles and hurt something take 3days off or if it was 5 miles take 5 days off. I find this helps me everytime. Just take it easy on your body when it's hurt. Running with an injury can lead to longer term problems.

I am new to the running phenomenon and I have my first run, a 5K, coming up on June 7th. I am VERY excited about this and should mention that this is my first year if running, and I started about a month ago when the weather started to break. When reading everyone else's workout and running routines I feel as though I won't be able to produce the same results. I have a really strange work schedule from early mornings to late nights and only 2 days off during the week, so I don't always get my 3-4 runs in a week. Nonetheless, I am not deterred by my work schedule. As a matter of fact, I just ordered a pair of Brooks running shoes since I am tired of my Puma's, and I can't wait to put them on and try them out.
I currently am running somewhere around 3-4 miles every 2 or 3 days, or at least I try to do so(see work schedule above). Yesterday I went for 5.03 miles for my first time and it took me 38' 46" 80"' . I'm not sure what my average mile is or even my fastest mile. I'd love to get one of those fancy gps watches that tell you all about your run, but thats not where I want to spend my $ right now, lol. I feel good about my run, but sometimes I have a real hard time breathing and I get pains in my side?!? Any suggestions? I eat healthy, I actually work for a fun Hawaiian clad, Polynesian themed grocery chain out of CA ;), and I typically stay away from alcohol as well. I just quit smoking 2 weeks ago, so I guess that might have something to do with it, who knows.
This place seems to be a lot of fun and I am glad to be part of it as well. I enjoy reading everyone's info and input, its great! If there is anyone living in my area that runs regularly, let me know, perhaps I can join in when my schedule allows. :D Thanks so much, H2!

Thank you for your kind words, it means a lot. I'm being strong about the whole not smoking thing and so far it has turned out really good. I'm surprised that I don't think of it more than I do, and when I do think of it I grab a snack to eat ;). As far as being a "natural", I have no idea. I have always enjoyed activities such as LaCrosse, Rollerblading, Mountain Biking, well, at least until I wrecked my last bike on an obstacle course last summer, lol. I think a goal down the road is to run a 20min 5k, that would be awesome!
Sounds like you know what my work schedule might just be all about. I work 5am's-3pm's or late such as 1pm's-11pm's, and thats tough on finding a good rhythm or to plan runs. I also squeeze them in as I see it fit, but sometimes I am just wiped out from work. Btw, I wore a pedometer to work for a week and on average I walk 8-10miles just at work, haha, imagine that!
I'm looking forward to enjoying better health and hearing more of the wisdom you might have. I am still trying to figure out how everything works on here. I don't seem to have a problem with food either though, my fast metabolism takes care of most things, plus I eat healthy anyways.

How's it going everyone. I just got back from my 1500 in boulder. i finally had my race and salvaged my season with a 3:58.12 Its tenchically only a pr by less than a second but as i get faster the seconds are becoming MUCH longer. Also the fact that it was at over 5200ft and run as a tactical race (slow to start, uneven pacing, then kick like crazy) has me pretty pumped. I felt great the whole way and wanted the leaers to speed up most of the time. I didnt pass them because there was some olympic talent in the race, they were just trotting along to make finals while expending as little energy as possible. The NCAA altitude conversion puts me at 3:52.xx, i dont like conversions but i will take it this time ;)
Now i will take a few weeks off so i probably wont be around much. Then its back out on the roads to start putting in some good mileage for xc season.
