I love it too. Once I'm warmed up, it is fantastic. One of my favorite things is to come home from a long run just sweaty, exhausted and rain soaked. That's what it's all about: being the good animal, making it across the planet in the most basic way and coming back home successful.
Livinng in Dallas, sometimes the only way away from the summer heat is to run in the rain. The only problem is that I run into many well-intentioned neighbors stop and ask me if I need a lift home. They look at me like I'm kinda-nuts when I tell them that I'm just fine, thanks anyway.
It definitely brings out a very strong and primal side of you - and it feels just great to look mother nature in the eye and laugh at her and tell her that she hasn't stopped you doing a run. It's great fun when cars intentionally drive into puddles and shower you with water.
Not gonna lie running in the rain = win... But i live up north so when that rain turns to sleet i don't like it so much it gives me really bad headaches and pluss it hurts too. Man do i like running in the rain and when its really windy too like 40+ mph its so intence.
When I first started running I went for a run in the pouring rain and got as sick as a dog with a cold. I'll never forget it. So much for determination on my part. I was thinking I was a die hard runner too.
I can understand running in the frigid temps and running in the snow, but that rain says "FLU" to me. You guys don't ever get sick from that?
I absolutely love running in the rain (I'm in the Seattle area, go figure!) It's refreshing, challenging, isolating (in a good way) and I feel close to nature. Sometimes it turns into slushy rain in the winter, and I don't mind that either, as long as the roads don't get slick.
Aubie, I've never gotten sick from running in the rain. Weather doesn't cause cold/flu, germs, viruses and bacteria cause cold and flu. I do make sure I change out of my wet clothes right away so that I don't catch a chill, which could compromise my immune system and make me more vulnerable to illness?
DogSports - you're spot on! As soon as you finish the rainy run, take off the damp clothes off and jump in the shower, pronto!
I love running in the rain. For some reason I always run decent times, both racing and training. I live in Geneva, Switzerland, which weather wise is very similar to my native Stoke-on-Trent, loads of rain!
I never thought people actually run in the rain! It's been raining recently so I've just been going to the gym or wait for it to stop. Like this morning I woke up at 6 to do a jog but it was pouring so I slept in and when I got home an hour ago it was fine so I just got back from my run. I'll have to try running in the rain sometime though
Here in England, it's academic; you will get wet on occasion - if it's hammering down between October & March, I tend to give it a miss, but a soaking two or three miles into a run during the few months of warmish weather is really refreshing, though squelching shoes is a bit of an annoyance!
I'm for running in the rain, it's refreshing during a difficult run or on a hot summer day. It's always raining around sunny Buffalo anyways. My advice, just give it a try.
The other day it was super hot outside and I decided to just go for a walk. But when I felt a couple droplets or rain, I decided, yeah, let's just go ahead and run. Well....my run was about 3 hours ahead of the ACTUAL rain. So at the end of August, in Oklahoma....the poor girl thought it was going to rain! Ha! Mother Nature ended up winning that day, but I was still out there trying!
