First of all, congrats.  I am curious what happens when you do finish.  Do they keep it up there so you can compare it to other challenges they you may enter or does it just disappear?

    Good afternoon All,

First, congratulations to all who took the challenge, regardless of your finish!

Second, does anyone know if this is just a one month challenge or is it for an indefinite period of time? I did not see a specific end time on the challenge page, so I had guessed that once a 'new' month began, my goal meter would start over. I have just posted my first run of my new month, but my goal meter still has my previous month completion percentage.

    Happy running!

    Hi,

When I signed up for the challenge I was unable to change the dates from the 15th Jan to the 17th Jan - so my challange dates are running from the 15th Jan -15th Feb even though I only signed up on the 17th. I assumed this was because the challenge finished on the 15th Feb. Perhaps that is why it will not log a new challenge for you??Just a thought!

I was under the assumption that the program runs from Jan 15th to Feb 15th. I tried adding up my miles to see if it corresponds with these dates, and it doesn't quite, but it's close enough. I, too, was wondering what happens when it's over.

I finished the 100 miles in 2 weeks and it was great to be able to log all the running that I did even if nobody even congratulated me from ASICS or mapmyrun/ride too bad I thought I did it!

anyway the only dumb thing was that my running totals was added with my cycling and swimming totals so it looked as though I finished the run in a week! maybe they could sort that out.

I'm still going, I didn't start the challenge until mid January. So allof you who are out there in the same position as me, we've still got days to go to complete the challenge...keep up the good work.

re my added up totals it added all up to the run challenge so according to the tally i did it in about 5 days - pretty damn fit huh?

we are having a real hot summer in New Zealand this year so running in 25- 35 degree heat is getting harder think I will just stick to the bike and the pool for a while til marathon training starts up agin - about 2 weeks time hopefully  be cooler then.

Congratulations to all that entered the contest.  I didn't enter until January 21st, so I hope that it continues to record my mileage until February 19th.

Even if there is no recognition from the organizer, I'll be celebrating my achievements!  I have 59.2K to go...........and since I've only been running for about two years now, this is quite an accomplishment for me!

    Run safe and keep smiling!

A HUGE Congrats to everyone who completed this challenge!!

I apologize but the month got away from me as I was busy rounding up product sponsors so I can get some great raffle giveaways to those who completed successfully!

    Some quick questions:

    * did you find the Challenge Reminders helpful?

    * What other information could have been helpful with the Challenges?

    * Did you just complete 'Runs' or did you mind that other distance added to the bottom line ... A lot of people are asking about limiting the Challenges to just 'Runs', etc. but I have a feeling that would upset those people that use cardio machines to get in the equal distances at the gym.  What do you think?

    * What type of thing would you have like to see on the day you completed the challenge? I can't provide fireworks but I can darn near try!!

Thanks for being such a great group -- This is going to be a fun program going forward and like anything with our little site, we are always making things better!

    Cheers,

I finished the challenge, but like others mentioned it posted my swimming and cycling distances.

I thought it was a RUNNING challenge so I wanted to track my mileage for the month of running only.  Not a big deal - I can do that through the graph, but would have liked to complete it on the web site as a running total.  Just my thoughts on it.

I love the site and would encourage more challenges, but ensure that they are specific to that activity.  Running on a treadmill is running.  Working out on an eliptical machine is not running so it should not count, nor is walking or swimming or biking.

I want my name in Big Blue Bold Letters with 100 Mile Run Challenge Finisher by it! Cool

Thanks MMR for setting this up!

I finished the challenge in under 2 weeks.  I'm at the 2 week mark and I've completed 117 miles so far.  I noticed that the challenge still calculates my total mileage even though I'm over the 100 mile mark.  I also noticed that when I went over 100 it dropped me from the "Leader Board".  I guess one feature that would be nice to see is for the participants to remain on the "Leader Board" until their 30 days are up.  I love this site and I also love the fact that you have established these challenges.  We all need inspiration from time to time no matter if a beginner or an advanced runner, I think that challenges such as this one provides that.

Well done all who have completed 100 miles, what an awesome challenge I covered more Ks in the month of February than I have in the past due to injury. I enjoyed the challenge and it gave me the motivation to get back into training and to push myself a bit what an understatement. Well done all the KIWIS. Just to create some interest, 2009 in Invercargill (Home to the worlds fastest Indian)they are going to celebrate the centenery of the first Marathon to be held in New Zealand. The former Winstone Marathon now Ascot Park Marathon held on the Riverton to Invercargill Course, I plan to make this my 2nd ever atempt at a Marathon first time I ran this course was when I was about 13 ran 16 miles in shoes with holes in the soles, and only fit for the bin. I will be 47 when this event takes place Well done everyone Laughing

Well, right now I am 99% finished.  I think I logged most of my miles in about a week.  I don't own a treadmill and I don't have a gym membership, so I have to go out in the cold, Brrrrrr, and get my mileage in.  It isn't so bad really, the only cold part of me was my face.  The rest warmed up after about a mile and stayed toasty for the rest of the time.  I have been logging in 10-15-mile runs, so it didn't take long.  The only thing that i dislike is my shoes, It takes me a mile for my toes to warm up. My shoes have mesh and the wind blows straight through and makes my toes numb.  I can't wear heavy socks cause they make my feet even colder, so I wear regular socks.  If I can get through the first mile then I am good to go. Good luck to the rest of you.Cool

Just finished late this afternoon, with a nice 6+ mile jog on a scenic canal in the SE Phoenix suburb of Gilbert.  My monthly mileage was aided by a half-marathon on 2/2.  However, normal training is about 25 miles a week for me, so typically I'll run about 100 miles, barring injury or illness.  Congrats everyone who finished, AND everyone who gave their best effort!

I know this was a "running" challenge, but, being a beginning runner, I found this a great way to get me motivated to work harder.

What speed constitutes walking vs running? I walk very fast (long legs) and some times jog the same speed as my fast walking...Thank you for counting all of the miles I put into this!

You have created a great site! As far as the updates go, I love them! I would also put an end date on them. I kinda had to guess as to when my last day was! ONLY @ 5 more miles to go tomorrow!!!

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! This is my favorite website. You helped me reach my goal of running 6 miles before summer, 2.5 months early!

I know the challenge ends today, but I ran 4.4 miles today and it did not log it.  It has me down for 99.52% complete.  But on the the little bar graph it rounded it to 100% and FINISHed.  Is there something to do to add this or count it?

I logged in ky last bid of miles on the 15th, but I guess the challenge was over so it did not count.  I thought that the challenge included the 15th.  So now I am 1 mile shy!  oh well, next time i'll know.  Thanks for a great challenge, it got me out of bed into 20 degree(f) weather.

To Kevin - answers to your quesstions...

did you find the Challenge Reminders helpful? Yes, I looked forward to seeing my goals

    * What other information could have been helpful with the Challenges? More specifics on start date and end date.  Jan 15 to Feb 15-- Really I think it ended on the 14th, which would have been a month.

I don't mind, at all, I think everybody should be able to participate.

    * What type of thing would you have like to see on the day you completed the challenge? I can't provide fireworks but I can darn near try!!   Maybe just a congratulations email.  SImilar to the reminder emails but maybe more colorful.

Thats it, just my opinions and thanks for the opportunity!

Now What?!  Can we start over?  I finished my goal and am looking to see if we can do another.  Did anyone hear anything for finishing? I thought that there was prizes awarded for something, not that I want any.  Is this site going to have another run 100 months or so?  Smile

This was a great challenge for me as I don't normally run this much and liked the tracking and alerts.  I didn't realize that there was a one month eligibility (Jan 15-Feb15) though.

kevin@mmf: thanks for organizing this.  Recommendations for the next one: allow people to start whenever ready.  I thought this was the case when I started.  Perhaps it is and people are just confused by one post in this chain.  Also, have the counter just track running - no biking/swimming/etc. Regarding treadmills, the challenge image shows people running on treadmills, plus some people have weather to contend with.  I live in SoCal and it actually rained one day, so I did 3 boring miles but got a nice workout (which is the point). The most compelling case is a Canadian runner training for Beijing who uses a treadmill instead of running in -40c.  Check out his blog, if interested: http://communities.canada.com/saskatoonstarphoenix/tags/Jason+Warick/default.aspx. It counts!

Regarding prizes, the challenge did say that Asics would randomly give out prizes.  I have three pair of Asics and admit that the prize factor was a motivator.  However, I'm glad to have finished and feel a great sense of accomplishment.  Congrats to everyone who went for it!

I'm upset now.  I did more than 100 miles in the given time and now I get this email saying that I was so close.  Close???  I exceeded the amount of miles.  Even the little bar that shows your progress is showing 111.06 miles with a goal of 100 but it is only showing 89%, when all this time it was showing 100%.  What's up with this??  I did what I was supposed to, and more.  Although I Know I did what I was supposed to do, I feel cheated.  I was in a good mood this morning, until I got that darned email.   Anyone else have this happen to them?CryFrown

I just got the email asking me if I want to do another 100 miles in a month challenge, and it is still showing the old dates, and it has expired 3-4 days ago?? Surprised

I got the same "close" email. I ran 105.26 miles. When I went back and checked my status, it showed me at 95% complete with 105.26 miles. Methinks someone has some debugging to do concerning math (if total > challenge...). But I liked it up until that point. It was a great motivator to get me running longer distances each week and to get out and run nearly day. As a suggestion for future challenges, some of the beginning runners might like a 50-miles-in-30-days challenge.

I too got the "you came so close" email even though I completed the challenge over a week early. I got suspicious when I went from being #1 on the leaderboard right before I completed 100 miles, to falling off the board after I surpassed the goal. I think that pjbishop is correct. There must be some debugging to do concerning what happens when a user's total is greater than the challenge. I guess that unless you completed the challenge at exactly 100 miles without going over, you are not a winner. Regardless, I really enjoyed the challenge and the motivation to keep my milage up over the past month. ... I should have checked the rest of my emails... I received another email acknowledging that I did indeed complete the challenge and that there was a timing issues that caused the other email to inadvertently go out.

I just completed the challenge.  I too thought I had one more day (today) to go.  It said it started on the 28th and ended on the 27th.  Luckily I logged enough miles to be finished.  I was excited that I would be over by 5-6 miles, but c'est la vie.  It would be nice to get a little certificate or something.  LOL

Because I can't run, I walked the 100 miles.  I walk at 5 miles per hour during the peak of marathon season, so feel I am worthy of this challenge.  I know people who jog slower than I walk.  My husband and I walk 1/2 marathon's and I signed up for this to motivate me and get ready for the marathon season.  It worked.  I have been walking 5 miles a day at least and at least 5 days a week.  I went from 4 miles an hour to almost 5 miles an hour on an incline of 3%.  I figure by the end of this month's challenge, I'll be over 5 miles an hour.

I've actually signed up again.  I enjoy the challenge and I am getting into great shape.  Most of my work has been on the treadmill, because being in Canada we get lots of snow in winter.  It's really hard to walk in the snow as we live out in the country.  Hopefully spring will come soon and the snow will go so I can go outside.

Congratulations to all those power walkers who completed this challenge.

I completed my first challenge and have just signed up again!  Below are my answers to provide feedback:  .

    * did you find the Challenge Reminders helpful?

       Yes.

    * What other information could have been helpful with the Challenges?

      What place you're currently in?

    * Did you just complete 'Runs' or did you mind that other distance added to the bottom line ... A lot of people are asking about limiting the Challenges to just 'Runs', etc. but I have a feeling that would upset those people that use cardio machines to get in the equal distances at the gym.  What do you think?

Just running for me; I only wanted to track my running.  However, I don't mind if other things are included (walking, elliptical, etc.).   Maybe in the future it might be possible to give each participant the choice of which type of activities they would like to have included in their total?

    * What type of thing would you have like to see on the day you completed the challenge? I can't provide fireworks but I can darn near try!!

It's amazing what I'll do for a congratulatory e-mail!  I was coming back from foot surgery and this challenge really gave me the extra incentive to get out there and re-build my mileage base.  I liked the sliding bar that showed how far I'd progressed, too.

    Hello,

I just finished my 100mi on 3/26/08, starting on 3/1/08. Mine showed up nicely on the graph, and it was neat to see my slider bar increasing after every run. I normally do about 15-20mi/week at 10min/mi, but this motivated me to see if I could get 25mi/week for 4 weeks straight in. As it turns out, it wasn't that rough. I use the Galloway walk 1min/run 4min method since a recent foot injury, yet I was running faster times than before the foot injury (9:20min/mi). I think Galloway has something there...I intend to keep using his method until it stops producing results!! www.jeffgalloway.com in case anyone's interested...

Luckily I live in San Diego, CA so we have perfect running weather year round. My company just moved to a new building that's only 7mi from my house, so I run home from work one day, and run to work the next day; that really helped get my miles in.

Now that I know I can do it, I don't know if it'll be "as fun" to do it again next month, but who knows...I do appreciate the Challenge aspect, I think it does provide some simple, extra motivation.

    EOFNER,

I am having the same problem, I took the 300 cycling challenge and my runs did not show up there, but on the 100 mile running challenge my cycling miles show up.  I suppose that we could either wait until later to log our rides, or look superhuman with daily 20-30 mile totals!

Heyyy all! I just signed up with www.mapmyrun.com today and have entered this challenge. MY GOODNESS if I knew this website existed I would have joined last year as I have only started running for a year now and this would have helped a lot. But now I am motivated and will be running with this program! I just started yesterday and have gotten 6 running miles so far! =)

Hit 100 last night, but feel I'm cheating as there are 20 bike miles in there. Will be running a ten miler tomorrow and should "officially finish " with 5 days left to go, but wish my bike miles weren't part of th echallenge.
