Yesterday after running about 2.5 miles, my hip started to hurt very bad. Last week it was hurting a little bit and felt sore. But yesterday it was bad. I stopped running. It hurt all night and hurts when I walk. I took prescription advil today and it has helped. I think I pulled a muscle because I can feel it stretching when I bend to the opposite side (it kind of feels good actually) and the pain also goes to my bum. I've been running for about 10 months. Has this happened to anyone else? How long does it take to heal? Thanks!
It could be your Sacroiliac Joint. If it's the same as what I had, the pain can radiate to your lower back eventually. It can feel like the deep tissue in your bum hurts. It could the SI Joint. I had this problem and went to the chiropractor. Problem solved. Better description follows in the below article. Once I had two treatments at the chiro, I was good to go! It's really important to stretch after your runs.
I had a bad hip pain - it was sever enough for me to fear the spectre of athritis. I went to a couple of physios, the first suggested ultra-sound guided cortisone injections (I did not like the sound of that). So I went to a second physio who is also a Pilates teacher. Her diagnosis was acute bursitis of the trocea (top of feamur), caused by a change in my pelivic alignment. Some treatment - ice, inferential and ultrasound; and a programme of core- stability excercises a'la pilates and the pain has gone and I am back to being a racing bufalo.
YES! I get the exact same pain. It's been bearable for the last few months but I'm training for a 1/2 Marathon and as my weekly long runs get longer it's started to hurt more, and like run run run says it radiates into my back and even into my groin area.
Wierdly though, if I'm doing a race pace run or interval work, it doesn't get aggravated. I would have though that pounding the pavement harder would upset it even more!
I've got an appointment with my Osteopath this weekend so I'll be getting her to do some work on it as well as the usual aches and pains!
I have had severe hip pain for the last two years. I finally went to an alternative medicine doctor /chiro. Just from my stance she could tell one of my hips was higher than the other. She sent me to xray, and we discovered one hip is def. higher than the other and my pelvis is slightly rotated. No arthritis yet, thank goodness She has one orthotic in my shoe, does pulse therapy and back adjustments. My hips have started to realign after a few months, but I do get hip / knee pain in the side that is lower and with the orthotic, as I'm still walking 5 miles every other day. She says it should realign completely in a few months. Stretching before and after walks makes it a lot more bearable.
