    Hi there!

It has been nuts at home and work and I only came onto the site to log my walks. The Danskin Tri here is a breast cancer benefit as well. My work has a Race for the Cure team and I was hoping to try my first run during it. (It is a walk or run.) However, I have a conflict, so I will not be able to do it. I have a close friend that is tryign to get me to try a duo this year. I think perhaps in the fall if I can get up to speed on the bike I hope to purchase in the next month.

My pool is now open at home, so I get in when I have a chance. I have a long way to go in getting ready in the water aspect of the tri! Whew! Most of the time I am in the pool, I am helping my kids (4 & 2) learn to swim, then when they get blue in the lips, I tell them it's my turn to swim! Smile

My knee has been ac ting up since I hada mini vacation two weeks ago. It could have been the trying to climb a mountain while carrying a 27#,  2 year old. It has not been normal since. I have had some knee problems this year once I started to up my activities. If I don't walk, it's worse, but if I walk too much, it gets worse. Oh well, could be old age and a heavy load! Smile

For now, I'm walking between .75 and 1.5 miles during the week, with undocumented carrying of toddlers and household stuff on weekends.

Kemcel, you seem to be doing great, being a mom is also a work-out. Keep up the good work.  I went back to the gym yesterday and boxed for 30 mins.  Today I did a 45 min spin class.

65 Mins at the gym - 48 mins on threadmill walk/run on incline and 15 mins on a new machine that targets your leg and butt (I don't know the name of it).  Feel a little drain this week.

I had planned on going a 35 mile bike this morning with friends didn't make it.  I felt I needed a break from working out all week - plus I am heading to Chino Valley located here in Arziona to take part in the Chino Valley Tri.  I am doing this event with my husband and son as a relay. My husband is doing the swim - I will do the bike ride and our son will finish it off with the run.  Many of our Tri group members are going to be there taking part in the event.  Smile

    Jacquie,

That is wonderful - At this point my only wish is to get to the point of being able to run 3 miles without stopping.  This morning I am heading to the gym for 400 meter swim workout - see how long I can go without stopping.

I did 300 meters instead of 400 - my arms were not up to it.

I bought my bike this Saturday for a b-day present to myself. I got a Giant Cypress Dx - a hybrid. I'm not ready for a road bike, but boy do I wish the frame were a bit lighter - just to get the more power moving the bike as opposed to the weight of the bike - if that makes sense.

I have not biked since 1990 when my (then) bike was squished in half (while it was on a bike rack) by a car. Ouch - my muscles are sore! I do not remember bike seats being uncomfortable, but I keep reminding myself to keep at it and my muscles may adjust.

I took it for a safe ride around a nearby park first to get used to the shifting and mounting and dismounting (apparently I had always dione that in bad form).

Yesterday (and today) it came to work with me for a ride at lunch- about 3 miles round trip. My rate was about 10mi/hr, so not as good as I hoped, but I again remind myself I am just beginning.

Today I "bricked" it with a .75 mi walk to get the feel of the combo. Definitely different muscles, so not too bad, but boy it was hot out there between 12 and 1 PM. I am thinking about asking for later lunch times.

Sunday, I was able to do a bunch of laps. Do either of you know if a lap is the to one end and back or just the to one end?

I am so far away from being ready for next year - but I am working on it!!! I am hoping to do the Tri next year all by myself, but I'll entertain the idea of relay if I am not ready and if my friends are willing to split it. Gotta keep my options open!

Kemccl - this is the 'island girl' who can't swim.  You seem to be getting there don't worry.  I could not sleep last night and was unable to get up my usual 5 am run.  Pulled myself out of bed at 6.30 and went to the gym for a quick midday run at a moderate pace. Completed 3.5 miles in 35 mins.

Yesterday I did 11 laps - wow n ot used to that much - could have done maybe another, but I had to make dinner so the kids could go to sleep by 9!

Today was not so great - I had low enbergy and my muscles are a bit achy. I did my bike ride (3 mi), but did not have the energy to walk after. I did 3 laps at home after work. Really tired tonight and going to bed early!

    Kemccl and Jacquie,

Yesterday I took a day off from working out just needed the break.  Tuesday the swim didn't go well plus I wasn't feeling that great in the morning and still went out tried to swim was not a good idea.

Anyway this morning I had a great workout felt great - did 20 miles on the ARC Trainer and 20 laps in the pool.

    Hi Lydia -

I could not post Thursday, the site kept on kicking me out.  Now today Sunday I c'ant seem to remember what my workout was but I know I did 70 mins on Thursday, did not do any thing on Friday and Saturday.  Felt bad when my sister told me how much running miles she racked up for the week 35 miles.  That was me last year, but I cooled down a lot.  I ran 3.5 miles today and walk/run 2.5 - there were too many beachgoers on the boardwalk and the sun was too hot.

I have an half marathon next Sunday...not looking to do any better than last year but just to finish the race before 2.30 min.

    Hello Jacquie,

I had problems yesterday trying to log on.  Today I did 34 mile bike with couple friends and my son - it was great ride.

Since you have half marathon planned for Sunday - What is your workout for the week?

    Lydia

I have to take it easy this week, mostly cross-training and try to avoid too much running.  But I did 5.5 miles this morning because I could not complete my training on Sunday.  Tomorrow, I may try the elleptical.  Someone died at the NYC Tri yesterday, a guy from Argentina.

Did 3mi on the bike at lunch today and a .75 mi walk. I look at your #'s and think wow - mine are so small, but it is a lot more than I used to do, so... Pretty good.

On another note I hit 10% loss from my original weight today, so feeling good and wearing a new necklace!

Do either of you think it is possible to train while in a calroie deficit? My deficit is not that big - maybe 400-600 a day... (factoring whatever exercise I do in).

    Hi ladies,

The week was hectic, did not do any form of cardio or training. I ran my half marathon today with a disappointing time of 2.30 min, 7 mins slower than last year.  My feet were killing me and no matter how ofter I run the hills in Central Park, I still have difficulty running up the hills.  I may have to buy new running shoes.  Will definately get back to my usual routine tomorrow.

    Jacquie,

Sorry to hear the half marathon didn't goes as well as you wanted - hey you did it so I am proud of you!!!

I was lazy that last couple days didn't work out - got have made the time to workout but let work of other things get in the way.

My son did a Tri today which his dad and I didn't part inso we could watch him.  He was hurting after the run because his feet were killing him because he didn't put on socks to run.  Later in the afternoon I did go swimming with my husband so at least I got to do something today.

My husband and I are planning to go see The inspirational film UltraMarathon Man: 50 Marathons - 50 States in 50 Days, features renowned endurance athlete and best selling author Dean Karnazes, in his attempt to run 50 marathons in
50 states in 50 consecutive days to rasie awarenes for youth obestisty and
to get America active. A beautiful and epic journey across the United
States, during which Dean pushes the limits of human endurance, inspiring
thousands across the country to join him along the path while uniting
people of all ages and abilities to take "the next step."  This is a one night only engagement showing in 200 theaters nationwide July 31, 2008.

Enjoy the film - heard of the guy but did not know that he had a film out.  When it gets on DVD I'll buy it.  My son would do the same thing run without socks.  I went to the gym and walked on incline for 50 mins yesterday.  Today I started my marathon plan and ran at my goal pace for 30 mins and then I worked out on different machines for 30 mins.

     Hey there!

Had a two week hiatus from the bike (completely) and walking (mostly) due to issues with thunderstorms, car in the shop (no bike rack to bring bike to work), and no lunch coverage. I got to walk some, but getting back into the swing this week.

Yesterday, extended my bike ride from 3 mi to 4.72 mi.

    Today, rode 6.38mi (34 min) - 11.26 ave speed - a personal best (I've been at 10 or 10.5)

No chance to swim due to thunderstorms.

Work has a new Health Challenge - people who sign up wear a pedometer (they have conversions for other activities like swimming and biking). The location with the best average/day wins a trophy, a title, and a caterred "healthy lunch".

We're getting into it and encouraging everyone here to do their best - It's pretty cool as I was thinking about starting a walking group here or some sort of weight loss challenge. (I also head the March of Dimes Walk for Babies at work, so leading something like a walk challenge would be right up my alley.) This time, I'm trying to get everyone else involved. The people near me are interested and it's pretty exciting.

Anywho, that's what's up with me.

Kemcel,  I again with Jacquie great to hear from you.  Yesterday evening it rain here which normally only happens around this time of year and usually only in the evening.  AZ weather is great for being outdoors expect in the summer if you workout outdoors its' best to do it early morning.

Sounds like your cycling is coming along that is wonderful.  When I first got into cycling my averge speed was between 10 - 11, not I can mantain an average of 15 - 16.

I like the idea of the challenge at work - I have tried getting my co-workers involved they want no part of it.  A couple years ago I started cycling team at work to ride for the MS150 - a few co-workers joined,, mostly it was my family and friends.

    Jacquie and Kemcel,

Yesterday I had a great workout which surpirsed me.  I went to the gym in the morning did 35 mins onthe ARC Trainer.  Left work at 4:30 to meet up with a friend in the East Valley which took me an hour to get there sine I live in the West Valley.  Anyway I normally swim 400 meters (30 mins) at the most but last night I did 900 meters which took me an hour to complete.  On Wednesday I normally do a spin class decided to take a break this morning - tonight I plan on going for an easy walk.

Wow I never write this much.

    Wow your workout sounds great!

Raining here today too. Gloomy out. Started to walk outside, but decided I did nto want to be wet all day at my desk, so I walked the length of the building inside instead for about 8 laps. People smiled at me as they knew I was walking for fitness. One asked if I had signed up yet for the walkign competition. I didn't tell him I was the one who wrote the e-mail that went out to everyone at our location that HR sent out. Smile

the walking today was not much, but for some reason when I walk inside, I always push my shins too much plus it was boring - no fresh air, no scenery flashing by. My bike sits outside on my car, wet with the rain. Wish I could have ridden instead.

Rode 7miles right after and right before thunderstorms, so I am glad to have gotten out there for my lunch hour.

Can either of you recommend a bike short in larger sizes? I am just beginning to fit into XL pants, but the exercise sizes are smaller than rgular clothes. Is there a brand that has larger sizes?

Today I meet up with the group I  ride with on Saturday which is all ladies.  We did 35 miles riding time was 2.23 hours - my average speed was 14 and max was 26.  My husband and son joined the a Tri group this morning a bike ride which we are members of.  Tomorrow I plan on going other group ride which I normaily meet up with on Sundays to training for the MS150 ride.

Karen, glad to hear you going out riding and not letting the weather stop you.  Maybe you may also want to think about getting a trainer when the weather gets worst.

Hi Lydia, I have a half marathon in Queens.  I also want to run a 3 mile trail run at the end of August.  I have never done trail running and heard that it is good. This will be in Van Cortlandt Park.  I ran 10 miles yesterday and 13 miles this morning.  I ran all the way to Riis Island and found out that I can run across the Marine Park Bridge into Brooklyn.  I will do that next week.

I am hoping to get a trainer for Christmas. The bike was a costly thing as is, so for now, if it is too bad for rising, I can at least do laps (walking) inside the building at work (long and thin set-up).

This weekend, worked on my arms by digging in the sand with the kids Smile on Saturday, rode my bike on Sunday around the house (ouch - more hill than near work) (we're at a low point of a river valley), and canoed for the first tiem with the kids (slow tooling about a small pond - fun, not much of a workout, but a little bit of one.)

I';ll check out the Descente brand!

Wanted to do my upper body at the gym yesterday, a personal trainer tried to sell his service and I was unable to complete my 30 min strength exercise.  Walked on the threadmill for another 20 mins and then I went back to the gym for 20 mins at mid-day. Did not exert my self much.

This morning I ran 5.5 miles.

Kemcel, we have been having rain here in NY also, but not as much as MA. That sucks.  Ran 7 miles today pushed myself and was able to run at a 10 mile pace for 7 miles.  It is so very much different on the threadmill, where I can maintain this pace for one hour compare to running outside.
