I'm on the 3rd week of an 8 week 5k training program, this is the first time I've tried to do something like this. I train 5 days a week - Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Saturday Sunday usually. I have a wedding the weekend after next. I'm wondering if it's better to skip my rest days this week and next to get all my training out of the way before the wedding weekend, or to continue to take my rest days and train as usual. The thing I'm worried about is I don't know if I'll be able to get away from family to go run, I may also be too hung over to run. I don't want to mess up my training schedule so that's why I'm thinking it may be better to get everything out of the way before the wedding. The problem with skipping my rest days however, is that I get really tired and run down when I do this. Let me know what you think - thanks.

    Hi pos69sum,

My humble opinion is that skipping your rest days is the most certain way to mess up your training schedule.  Muscles require the rest days to rebuild themselves.

If you are serious about partying at the wedding, then give yourself the weekend off of training.  You'll pick up the following week without too much ill effect.

However, if you are serious about training, then limit (or skip) the alcohol, keep yourself hydrated with plenty of water instead, wake up early in the morning and run before the family events get going.  I can't tell you what to do, only that I'd do the second option because that's who I choose to be.  Who do you want to be?

I have had the same dilemma, and let me tell you, I am a fan of partying and my family so here is what I do...

    1. Tell my family I have to go out for a bit and I'll be back, thats when I run.

    2. Stock up on Vitamin water or something of the likes, I drink like a fish at the wedding, chug a Vitamin water before bed~ the grape is the revive which never fails me~ and then I drink an energy one in the morning and take off for a run...

If worse comes to worse, sleep in and run the next day or later in the day following the wedding and by god have fun!Foot in mouth
