First, I think that this is a great site.  The 'map my run' component is outstanding in terms of the info that is available and has really helped me fine tune where I run.

However, the "search for runs" section has been less than useful, and perhaps it's my misunderstanding in terms of what it is supposed to provide.

I assumed that it would yield runs in an area that are notable for at least something -- maps of, say, a nice 6-mile loop that's not jammed with traffic, a long country road that's scenic and safe, a great place for hill training, etc.  But if I enter my area, zip code 40504, what I mostly get are hundreds of runs that can best be described as "from my house to Y."  These are maps that simply seem to show courses that individual runners use because of personal convenience rather than having some appeal to others.  As such, it takes me ages and ages to scroll through to find something that is truly noteworthy.

So would it be reasonable to request that users only make public maps of runs that they believe truly have some appeal to others?  While I'm sure that a map of "run to Dad's house" is just great for the person who created it, others have no use for it unless, of course, I can stop in dear dad's house for water or to use the restroom.

I also think that it would be great to require that anyone making map public be required to at least say a few honest, objective words as to WHY it's a notable run.  That would really help others to decide if they want to give it a go.

    Anyway, that's my .02.
