Edit: So I completely mixed up my weekends when I originially posted this.  I thought the pain started a day after standing for 11+ hours, but that was 2 weeks ago not one. So I'll edit the post a bit...

Hi, so I started running regularly again about 3-4 months ago, working up pretty gradually from about 1.5 mile runs a few times a week to lately I've been running 3-5.5 miles 5 times a week give or take.  I also started doing Jiu-Jitsu twice a week about a month ago so those have sort of been cross training days for me.

Last Saturday I ran 5 miles and felt fine... the end to about a 23 mile week.  I slept in pretty late on Sunday and used it as a rest day where I didn't really do much of anything except mill around the house. When I woke up on Monday to go for a run, my lower back/right hip felt really stiff.  Since then I've tried to take it easy, but my right hip(not so much my back) still feels very sore whenever I put all my weight on it to walk/run/put on a pair of pants.  I'm bad at describing injuries, but when I put all my weight on my right foot to put on a pair of pants it hurts/feels a bit weak like I might fall over...sort of like the day after going on a run for the first time in a long time and your legs feel like they'll buckle if you walk down a flight of stairs, but with pain mind you.

Jiu-Jitsu actually makes it feel a lot better like it's being stretched out, but the impact of running (it's pretty inconventient for me to not run on pavement) is very aggravating for the first mile or so.  The running shoes I've been using are pretty crummy (a not so new pair of Adidas that I just picked out because they fit me without the help of anyone) and I'm sure that isn't helping.  I just wanted to ask what anyone thought about waking up with a sore hip after about 48 hours of complete pain free rest and if anyone thinks I need to see a doctor, get a better pair of shoes, take a few days off until my hip feels better, and/or suggest some stretches that would help out.  Thanks!

Dan, not so odd, because I seem to have the same symptoms you do.  I have been renovating a bathroom recently, so that might have something to do with it.  I wish I could also find an answer, I was at my doctor about 2 weeks ago and mentioned it to him, he quickly dismissed it as muscle related.  Right now I feel OK, but I just finished my run for today and it really loosened up.

Thanks, the more I read about bursistis and where the bursa sacks are located it seems that might be it.  For the past couple of days, it actually feels a lot better AFTER a run and sore/stiff when I wake up or sit for more than half an hour.  I've just been taking ibuprophen when it gets real annoying and I'm going to go to a running shoe store probably tomorrow and have them fit me with a pair that aren't old, $30 dollar Adidas that I bought off a rack at Kohl's.
