Help!: Basic Editiing

Need to make changes in the middle of a 75 mile bike route map. I can't see or grab any point to make changes. Clicking on the map (per instructions) only centers the map. I'm on a MAC. No video found for basic editing. Editing was unavailable for a week or more and now does not seem to work.
