Under "Route Info" with "Show Elevation" on, in the "download data" file the accumulated ascent/descent are always in meters, even when "change units" has set everything else to feet.

More: in one case I had the "Route Info" max/min about right but the ascent/descent were low by a factor of 3.3 - like it took the metric values and assumed they were feet so it divided by 3.3 to get the metric.

The elevation data seems to be very erratic - see http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/united-states/co/vail/905734729575 a simple 1000 foot ascent along a smooth slope. Click on "Show Elevation" and "Topo Map View" and it's obvious the two are totally unrelated. Also, if you download the data you'll see that the accumulated ascent/descent columns are off (low) by a factor of 3.3 from the other data.

Both "BikeMap" and "Bikely" show this same route correctly, so it's not an elevation database issue. See:
