I'm based in The Netherlands and I try to make a new run using the "follow roads" feature. However, it does not seem to work. When I click the map, the starting point is plotted, however, a next click does not generate a new point. When I uncheck the "follow roads" checkbox everything seems to work fine (but not following the roads of course).
Any suggestions anyone?
I can't even get to a particular destination to start a new route. I can view existing runs but can edit them or make new ones.
Anyone else with this problem?
Hi Elvis-
Have you ever successfully mapped a route in the past? If not, have you seen our tutorial videos to get you started?
jeff@mmf:Hi Elvis-

Well, I did see the tutorial video's, but the follow roads does not work for me.... Any suggestions Jeff?
I've also checked the videos to see if I was missing something. I can put in a start location, but then clicks after that don't do anything if the "follow roads" section is checked. If I uncheck it and use a regular draw points method everything is fine.
Is this feature limited to a certain set of geographical locations?
Jeff, I do think there is another reason (unknown to me) why follow roads sometimes doesn't work.
The reason I think so is that even when I try to map runs in New York city, Washington or Dallas, I can not get follow roads to work. Maybe my internet explorer version? I use 6.0.2800.1106. Or another reason?
This doesn't sound pertinent to the specific issue, but might apply in some cases. The "Follow Roads" feature seems to be affected by firewalls. I am unable to use it at work, as that portion of the site fails to load properly. At home, it works perfectly fine.
I'm unsure how personal firewalls might affect the feature.
I've got the same problem. Aprox. month ago Follow roads worked perfectly, but then suddenly stopped working. No matter from what computer I'm connected.. I tried to turn off the firewall on my comp, but it's not helping. Any suggestions?
Hey Eelko,
I am also in the Netherlands and have tried without succes the 'follow roads' option. My firewall is already disabled for other reasons and it still does not work... If you ever find out what might be the cause I am interested!
Maybe the reason that the turn by turn directions do not follow my map are because of the one way road issue. That is, not allowing you to create a map where you are running the wrong direction down a one way street?
Just a thought.
Hello ,
Same thing for me, location is Belgium.
Windows Vista Family Premium.
IE7 and Firefox 2.0.0.12 : NOK.
With and without firewall: NOK.
Also tried with Ubuntu 7.10 and Firefox : NOK.
When I try the same kind of function on maps.google.be it works perfectly.
Fernand.
Hello,
Same thing here, location is Sweden.
I tried all combinations of
Latest Firefox, IE7

Drawing tracks in Sweden and the USA

Any suggestions?

Oscar
I'm in Swindon UK, and it does work for me.
It's pretty cool if you run on roads, I hadn't noticed the feature until I read this thread, so thanks folks.
Anyway, as it is working for me, post your "zip code", or "post code" on here, and I will give it a try with my system (that way, you will know if it is your system or your area)
Alternatively, try the feature in my area, which is SN1 4PW in the UK. Which definately does work for me.
I have IE7, but I don't know if you need it as a prerequisite.
Wow, this feature does some pretty peculiar routes on Swindons one-way system; but it does still work.
I guess it is good on long winding roads, though it can give some pretty senseless routes (avoiding paths and taking motorways) I guess because of the driving db.
Also I notice that it is very slow on long routes, taking an increasing amount of time to "click" it's way through the route.
You can hear the gaps between clicks getting longer and longer, and it can appear to crash your browser if you give it too much to think about. Maybe that is what is happening to the people who have no data for their area (?)
Hello all,
same problem here, in Italy. I've tried this feature, but it does not seem to work.
My configuration: Ubuntu 7.10 and Firefox 2.0.0.12 (without firewall, for that matter)
Regards, Alvise
Be sure to turn off "Display Elevation" when you use "follow roads". the combination of the two is what causes the dreaded "clicks". If "display elevation" is turned off, the follow roads works smoothly without the weird clicks.

For me the follow the roads worked in Internet Explorer (6.0) but not in Firefox.
Anyway Internet explorer and the whole PC becomes terribly slow when you plan longer routes.
JiriIn Firefox, you have to set your preferred language to display webpages to [en-us]. This worked for me (in Belgium).
Do as follows: Tools -> Options... -> Languages -> Choose... -> Select English/United States [en-us] and then click "Move up" until it is on top of your language list.
Don't be afraid to change this language option. Your firefox will still work in your preferred language (dutch in my case).
also in germany it doesn't work. all combinations tested.
IE7, Firefox, with or without firwall, trying tracks in germany and england (London), tried also windows xp and linux (suse 11 + Firefox)
no combination works...

Now it works!!!
thanks to "traficon_CT" , it's the language setting in firefox!
i changed (move up) to "us_en" (from german), now it works.
perfect!!
