I hope this suggestion is helpful for someone:

I have been a runner for about a year and am signed up for my first full marathon in Atlanta on Thanksgiving day.  My long runs are currently around 13.5 miles.  If I had to classify myself it would be an endurance runner because I like slow long runs instead of short fast ones.  One thing I have discovered that REALLY helps me stay out there and enjoy my time instead of thinking of turning around and eating a pint of Ben and Jerry's Karmel Sutra Icecream is books on CD.  I rent them from my local library and burn them to my IPod.  I can get out there and literally run for hours because I can't wait to hear what will happen next in my book.  It is a realy mental reprieve for me and unlike music, is always new and fresh and doesn't end every 4 minutes.   I read a lot anyway but have drastically increased my book voraciousness.  Everyone at the library thinks I drive all day for my job and when I tell people I listen when I run they think I am crazy.  Most people reply that they need the excitement of music but that just doesnt' work for me on long runs - I get bored with music too quickly and can never figure out what to download when I am on Itunes.  Then I skip around to all my favorite songs on my ipod anyway and don't listen to those songs I only find marginally good.

Anyone else have any good tips?
