When did any of you decide to invest in a hydration pack/belt, at what mileage?

I invested in mine long ago when (camel back was only a part of an animal), and now have four I think.  The important question is “are you able to stay properly hydrated with out one”.

If you are thirsty when you are done with your work out you are not stay hydrated enough.  If you can run routes that allow access to water you don’t need one, if you can run holding bottles in your hand you don’t need one.  Most likely you need one.

I wear mine if I am going out for more the 30 or 40 min.

For long runs they are also a great place to stash your phone, money, emergency TP and the like.  I put all the extra stuff in a zip lock to keep safe.

One of the most important options to look for is one that allows you to adjust to tension as you drink the bladder down.  That will allow it to stay tight and not start to bounce on you.

I love my camel packs.... If you dont clean them they get nasty LOL.. I felt naked when I didnt have mine on(when cleaning them- which is not easy). snowboarding/biking/running got to have it!

I don't know if you're looking for product recommendations, but I enjoy Ultimate Direction's hand-held bottle carriers.  Just enough space for a phone, key, and bank card:

I just started using a Fuel Belt, and I'm really quite surprised by it.  About the only thing I notice while wearing it is the sound of the water swishing in the bottles.  I just wish the pocket was a little bigger, it barely has room for 2 gel packs, so there's no chance of a wallet fitting.  As far as when I started wearing it/felt like I needed it was when my runs started going 8 miles and longer, it was very nice to have.
