What is Google Earth? top

Google Earth combines the power of Google Search with satellite imagery, maps, terrain and 3D buildings to put the world's geographic information at your fingertips.

  • Fly to your house. Just type in an address, press Search, and you'll zoom right in.
  • Search for schools, parks, restaurants, and hotels. Get driving directions.
  • Tilt and rotate the view to see 3D terrain and buildings, or look up to explore the sky
  • Save and share your searches and favorites

How can I view a Route Map in Google Earth? top

Follow these steps to view a route in Google Earth:

  1. Make sure you have Google Earth downloaded and installed on your machine.
    Click the Google Earth Button above if you do not have it installed.
  2. Navigate to the View Route Page by clicking on the Route Link
  3. Click on the View this Route in 3D (Google Earth)** link. (see below)

  4. If you are prompted to select which program to open the *.kml or *.kmz file, select Google Earth


How can I create a Google Earth Flyover Video? top

There are two options available to create your Google Earth Flyover Video:

Option 1: Create the Video In-House

To create this Video using Google Earth, you will need to purchase and install Google Earth Professional
(This will cost you around $400 per year)

  1. View the Route Map in Google Earth. See How
  2. Read Making Movies with Google Earth
  3. Create your Movie File using Google Earth Professional
  4. Upload your Video to a website like YouTube. You can visit the YouTube Uploading your Video Page
  5. Finally, to embed this video in your Website, read the YouTube Tutorial on Sharing your Video

Option 2: Contract MapMyFitness to Create the Video

As of January of 2008, MapMyFitness can create production-ready Google Earth 3D Flyovers for a flat-rate of $150 per route (distance markers are included). Advanced customization of the flyover is possible such as custom map markers, locations, etc. for an additional fee. Contact Us to request a custom quote.

For a standard Google Earth 3D Flyover Request, please do the following:

  1. Create your Route Map. Make sure the Map is zoomed in and that the route follows the roads cleanly
  2. Contact Us and include your name, email, phone number, and a copy of the link to the Route you wish to use. We will look at the Route Map and one of our MapTechs will contact you within 24 hrs.
  3. After we create the course map, we will deliver to you the code to embed on your website that will play your new Google Earth 3D Flyover
