Profile
Started to seriously ride in Okinawa Japan, loved it! Got very good at hills (10% +) for most of the hills over there. I would religously go out for a 28 mile loop every night after work, rain or shine, then a 30-40 miler each day on the weekend. Drafting dump trucks and buses was the most fun. I had such a good time, I extended for a second year.
Came back to the states and got married, put the bike up for a year, got it out and rode a little off and on for the next two years. Taco'd a front tire after getting cut off by an old lady in a car, flew over the front end of her car and landed upside down on a parked car. I got the ticket for passing on the right!!!
Picked it up again in 96 in Okinawa again. Not to much, was deployed a lot during that year. Came back to Jacksonville, N.C. and started riding again in 97, to and from work, started a friend into it and we would ride to work everyday. About 8 miles only each way, was doing a lot of swimming. I was the director of the Combat Water Survival Swimming School, making all of the swim instructors and instructor trainers for the Marine Corps through 2001. Went to Iwakuni Japan for another year and bought my current Trek 1500. Would ride 24 miles every morning (Monday-Friday) at 0500 then go to PT (Physical Training). Got my run time for three miles down to 16:28 in September 2001 at 36 years old. Came back to the Jacksonville again and started riding mountain bike more than road, but switched it up until Feb 2003 when I went to Kuwait. Came back in the summer, rode with some friends on the mountain bikes for a couple of years, got promoted to Master Sergeant and went to 2nd Marine Division. Started riding, swimming, and running quite a bit before going to Iraq in October 2005. Blew my knee out jumping from a roof. Had a complete cartilage tear from my left knee cap. Sucked it up for a year before finally getting surgery. Ended up not riding any more until about two months ago in Iraq again. I found an abandoned mountain bike, fixed it up and rode it for about a month in June of this year. and then on the 3rd of July, my daughter brought up riding again, so we are on it.
