Hello everyone!
As you may have noticed we finally launched on new site design today as well as the next version of our Map Tool!
We're hoping that this new layout gives you more information and lets you jump right into what you're here to do ... Map Routes, Record your Workouts, and now.. much more! It also will give you more depth by giving you short-cuts, etc.
We've launched Training Plans and we're rolling out a new Premium Membership option that will give users more functionality and more access to some of our advanced features. This Membership also gives us some resources to really start focusing on building the tools and features that you want!
Remember, this site is built on the feedback and support of it's users -- each and every one of you have a say so speak up! Share the site with your friends! Let us know what you think ...
Since starting this site 3 years ago we've come a long way and I'm hoping you continue to join me in this adventure!

The default location for new routes seems to ignore the State. So if I set my default location to Anytown, NY I will also see routes from Anytown, MD etc...
How do you edit a route?
I can't move any points - there are no point markers to click and drag on my screen when I go into edit mode. I see markes when first plotting the route, but not when editing after a save.
Old problems:
Still have two two point at each point. One has the auto generated routing note, the other doesn't. If you move the point with the note ever so slightly, the note disappears. Notes not output with the gpx file.
New problem:
Blocking those ads is pretty tedious.

I'll have somebody take a look at your issue soon, could you elaborate with which route you're having this issue?I'm dissappointed with the new design. It runs veerrryyy sslloooooowwly!
Plus, I used to be able to print a map zoomed to any view, straight out of my web browser (Firefox) - won't let me do it anymore. Instead I am supposed to buy premium membership and download a pdf map that probably won't have enough detail on it anyway.
And what's this "Premium Membership". Are your sponsors not paying you enough? For a free site I'm willing to put up with advertising, but I won't pay to be bombarded with it.
I started using MapMyRide when I had problems with another ride mapping site. You had a very good site, but I guess it's time for me to search for another mapping site.
The new design runs slowly? Can you elaborate, we've been testing this and we haven't noticed any slowness that you mention (at least to any seriously appreciable level).
I believe premium members will have less advertising as soon as we get to that.
Please also keep in mind that developing MMF is not a trivial affair, while we strive to, and provide an excellent free service, programmers, servers, etc aren't free.
I noticed the elevation view no longer gives total elevation gain...that is a very useful feature for us cyclists as it lets us determine the difficulty of a ride at a glance...can this feature please be added back in?
Other than that the site looks great so far...ditto on the slowness thing but it may just be everyone hitting it at once to see the new looks
Allanv,
I'm having no problems accessing that map, but it could be a browser issue. Have you added mapmyride.com to your trusted sites list? (This could be a fix if your security settings are high), however before you do that...
Could you just reload the page and see if you get the map?
I'm a road cyclist and agree with fat tire rider above. Calculation of elevation gain and loss was my favorite feature. I really like the idea that the training log would keep a running total of elevation gain over time. BRING IT BACK.
On most of my routes, I wind up joining the route at some point in time coming back in. The new mapping tool will not let me run the inbound route over the top of the outbound route.
I also tried several times last night to view some routes in my area using the new mapping tool in IE7 (which is my preferred browser). I was constantly getting an error message that a script on this page was running very slowly. If it continues to run it may cause Internet Explorer to stop responding. Would you like to stop the script? It gave no indication as to what the script was. If I did not stop the script, I would repeatedly get the error message. If I did stop the script, the route would not fully load. This error did not occur in Firefox 3. One of the routes that it occurred on is
http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/united-states/al/huntsville/499993833
As for as the elevation request that several other people have had, I agree that it is very valuable, however your old elevation numbers were so far off that unless they are corrected don't bother adding them back. That is the one thing the bikely.com does better.
OK, the new design looks nice. But I was immediately put off by an Oakley flash ad that sat squarely over the 'My training' sidebar and the 'Start mapping' button next to it and just *would not* be closed. It's gone now that I've logged in, but I can't imagine anyone wants it to do that.
Really liked the way you could add a run to your training right from the map page. Until it crashed at the last minute saying 'Avg pace must be a valid integer value'.
Also, seeing 'You have no gear to track' in that section was a bit worrying. Turns out you do still have my shoe mileages, but I had to look carefully to find them.
So overall, looks promising, but needs some bugs ironing out if you're not going to put people off.
Using Firefox 3, in case you need to know.
Like another user I'm finding it runs very slowly to the extent that a Windows box appears suggesting that I stop running scripts.
The map I've created has been completely changed and part of the route lost, with icons having changed. Link undernoted
http://www.mapmyrun.com/run/united-kingdom/gullane/636290836
Disappointing as our race is 8 days away and traffic to view the map should be increasing.
I'm slightly reluctan to have to redo the map again. Feedback please
Peter
I am also getting the "stop runing scripts" error as above on my ride that I constantly edit (http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/united-states/nj/atlantic-city/384723604). When I elect to stop running scripts, my route doesn't show up, if i don't stop them the page never loads.
Very frustrating!
I can no longer save a route. I'm running FireFox 3 on Win 2k. It was intermittent once I went to FireFox a couple months ago. Now, with the new design, when I click "Save to My Profile" it goes to the home page and I am no longer showing as logged in. I am running Zone Alarm 7 Security Suite. I shut down the firewall temporarily. No help
Dave
Like others above, I'm also getting a "stop runing scripts" error. My browser is IE v.7
I just tried pulling up a route I created about two weeks ago. Very slow to load and about 1/3 of the route (42 mi bike) is now unplotted.
I am having the same "slow" problems as others (but fortunately not having the "stop running scripts" problem). I have a 2.0 GHz P4, dual core machine with 3.0 GB of memory and a high bandwidth internet connection ... so I don't think my computer or network are the problem.
The problem, as far as I can tell, is the automatic notes 'feature'. The maps I created using the old map tool (without notes) still load fairly quickly, but the maps with notes are *slow*. As I open a map with notes, the map fades to black with a "Loading Notes..." message. Short routes will load in 10 seconds or so, the larger maps 20+ miles take longer, 30 seconds or more.
I see that the new mapping tool has a checkbox for "Follow Roads with Automatic Notes". Argghh! I want to "Follow Roads", but I *don't* want or need "Notes". Why not make "Automatic Notes" a nested, optional checkbox?
Also, creating new maps with the new mapping tool is pretty annoying. Every time I add a point, the page "flashes" twice (map goes dark) with a "Please Wait..." message immediately followed by a "Loading Notes..." message. I can add my next point within 1 to 3 seconds, but damn that flashing. It's pretty disconcerting and makes the route-creation process pretty clunky.
The whole "notes" feature is pretty costly in terms of speed and user experience. I'd change the notes to an "on-demand" feature, not real-time. If a user wants or needs route notes, then s/he should click a button that creates them after they have finished creating the map (I suppose the check box for automatic notes could still be an option, disabled by default). And when a map is loaded for viewing, don't load the notes automatically! Only load the notes if the user asks for it (clicks a button).
overall, I like the new site - two main questions:
1) since almost every member using the site will never want to be on a hyw/frwy - is it possible to have a setting that the user can select that prevents the mapping tool from selecting highways? For instance, if I am mapping a long ride and I select a point that might be 8-10 miles from my last point, it often will take me on a highway if available which I obviously will not do?
2) how can I see total elevation - I know that I can show the elevation window but I have not found where it summarizes the total ascent/descent etc?
thanks
1) The site is now unacceptably slow
2) There are 2 empty square boxes on the right side of the map
3) The combination of the change to the slite and performance issues along with changing to a pay site with no advanced notice are unfortunate as they have pretty much frustrated me so much that I can;t see using the site much moving forward. Myself and others were raving about what a great site this was and now that you can't even print out maps and/or direction without paying make the site a no go for me and for the training group we used it for this spring. Sorry guys but making this a pay site will ruin it for me and my friends.
I have also seen the slow routing (Firefox). I saw this when the Beta version was being pushed. I used the Beta version once, but it was very slow compared to the non beta version and did not choose it any more. I assume that this Beta version is now the standard
.
You are charging 2 credits for PDF license, I do not need or want a PDF picture. I just want draw a route quickly, get an idea of the elevation profile and then have a SIMPLE queue sheet. I also like the feature to upload your route into my Garmin.
I liked the OLD site and old setup. I had no complaints. There are other sites that are simular. The closest is roadbikerides.com. But, I would rather not change.
Can you think about a different way to charge to cover your expenses? I do not know of many riders that need a PDF. Just a text queue sheet is all that is needed at the end.
Option 1) Receive credits for each public ride that is posted. Example: If I provide two public routes, then allow me to print one of my routes.
What is the benefit of me sharing my routes if I have to pay?
Option 2) Charge for database useage. Storing over 10 routes, $xx/year.
Option 3) Let all of these sponsors pick up the tab.
Option 4) Keep the PDF charge option, but provide a simple printable text queue sheet.

I've been following the slow route engine bug, if it is causing problems for you, go to /create_pick or to your profile and change to the old mapping tool.
I am trying to add a 'new workout' and as soon as i add the type (run) the screen blanks out for me and does not allow me to add anything. i can use the "quick add" form but that does not allow me to see pace, calories or track my shoes.
also, how can i delete an activity on my workout calendar if i have not actually saved the route?
Overall, the new site design looks nice. I only have one possible bug to report, which is the same as runner37 above. I have been tracking two pieces of gear - bike frame and running shoes. Both items still show up when I click on "My Gear," but when I'm entering a workout in my training log, the only thing that shows up as available for me to track is the bike frame. My running shoes are not there.
Otherwise, have found no other issues.
Update: After I posted this, I went to log a workout and my shoes were there for me to track. However, when I went into yesterday's workout to edit and see if I could track my shoes, they still weren't there; when I clicked "Yes" to track gear, it took me to the "Add New Gear" wizard.
Update 2: When I click on any link to view my profile, I get a page that says "User Not Found." If I click the "My Profile" link at the top of the page, I can edit it (and I did make sure that it was set to public,) but if I click my name in the list to the left or above my post, I am not found.
aea@mmf: Profile works for me too, now.
As far as the gear issues, first, yes, shoes are showing up on existing runs (except for 7/5/08, see below,) and bike frame on existing rides.
I was playing around a little and here's what I got:
First: I went to my training log, clicked "Add" on today's date, and added a run. Both shoes and bike frame showed up to track with no issues.
Second: In my training log, I clicked on my 7/5/08 run to edit it and see if I was now able to track my shoes. I am not able to track anything for that day; bike and shoes are both missing, and when I click "Yes" to track gear, it opens up the "Add Gear" window.
Third: Clicked "My Rides," selected a random one, and clicked "Save To My Training." When I reached the "Gear" tab, it said that I have no gear to track, so neither shoes nor frame are showing up that way either.
Fourth: When I added today's workout earlier this afternoon, I built a new route and then clicked "Save To My Training." As mentioned previously, both frame and shoes were available to track in that instance.
If it makes any difference, #'s 1, 2, and 3 were done logged in to the MapMyRide.com domain. #4 was done logged in to MapMyRun.
Hope this helps!
I found a bug.
The elevation units are inverted.
When you're in metric, it shows the highest and lowest points and ascent/descent in feet. If you switch to feet, it will show you those stats in metric.
My road ycling maps appear to be screwed up - the route no longer follows the roads. The route appears to be shifted away from the actual roads. Here is an example: http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/united-states/tx/andice/390409552
This route appeared fine before the conversion. I have over 100 routes for our cycling club that appear to be affected. Help!
brifly:I see that the new mapping tool has a checkbox for "Follow Roads with Automatic Notes". Argghh! I want to "Follow Roads", but I *don't* want or need "Notes". Why not make "Automatic Notes" a nested, optional checkbox?
Yes PLEASE!!!! :-)
Also, it would be SO nice to be able to delete notes from the notes panel when editing a route. A little X box to the right of each note, please!
Steve
Please help. I paid $5 to try to print some of my maps. I printed the following:
http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/united-states/nc/charlotte/648451326726
I was charged 4 credits to print it once? Thought it should only be two.
What I printed was useless because only half of the notes (turn by turn directions) printed.
I tried to save the PDF but for whatever reason it did not work after I printed it the file was lost.....I don't want to pay another $2 to try to print it again.
Can you credit me back? Can you allow me to print all of the notes.
Thanks.
kerrycrow:Can you credit me back? Can you allow me to print all of the notes.
Thanks.
Kerry, I went ahead and credited your account back for that second purchase. My apologies, this is a small bug, and we're currently looking into it to make sure it doesn't happen again. You should be able to go back in and re-print the map without being charged for it, otherwise please feel free to let us know.
peppers179:i was wondering if the Satellite images are gone or if i'm just an idiot and cannot find it??? helppp
See: Forum "CATEGORIES" > "Help!" Topic: "where's the hybrid button???"
Quick answer: Use the pull-down menu under "Show Elevation" in the "Route Info" [red] box at the upper right corner of the map.
xkyzero:I seem to have lost (or can no longer find) the ability to add points between points when editing a route.
In my experience that feature has never worked, I does add a point, but somewhere on the opposite side of the world; and if you then save, your route is trashed. I've reported the problem several times.
Like racethenation above, on most of my routes I wind up joining the route at some point coming back and am having the same problem plotting the return portion over the outbound portion. The old map allowed me to do so by turning off the map markers, but I can't make it work with the new map.
"I see that the new mapping tool has a checkbox for "Follow Roads with Automatic Notes". Argghh! I want to "Follow Roads", but I *don't* want or need "Notes". Why not make "Automatic Notes" a nested, optional checkbox? "
AMEN to the above comments from brifly. I also feel the "Notes" option makes the route creation process slow and clunky and could be made optional.
I look forward to your answers on both issues.
I'm also experiencing the 'stop running script?' problem on IE7. I tried changing to the old mapping tool as suggested but no change. I cannot load most of the rides I've created or rides others have created.
I experienced this script problem earlier when using Safari but symptoms are worse now. With Safari if I got the message and stopped the script I could at least see the route. Now I can't. Site is currently unusable for me.
ckern18:............... Argghh! I want to "Follow Roads", but I *don't* want or need "Notes". ..........I suspect the response lag is in the follow roads stage and the time to note the turns/roads is not significant. The automatic notes is what sets this site apart fro several others which have follow roads but force you to enter or keep track of the turns and road names separately. Automatic notes is the key feature I keep coming back here for.
