description: Nice long 'flat' ride (there are no major hills in this ride). Ride out on the Aviation Bike Path to Kolb, South on Kolb to Valencia, East on Valencia to Old Vail Connection. Old Vail/Mary Cleveland to Colossal Cave. Colossal Cave/Wentworth to Sahuarita. Sahuarita to Nogales Highway (You can stop at the quick stop in Corona de Tuscon for water/bathroom/food). North on Nogales Hwy back to town. Bike traffic is prohibited under the SPRR underpass on 6th and you have to walk on the sidewalk (there are video cameras in the underpass). All in all this is a nice ride unless you are riding AGAINST the wind (which makes you feel if you are riding uphill when you are not.)

description: Training Ride through Dove Mountain and Rancho Vistoso. This ride has a long moderate to hard climb up Tangerine to the end of Dove Mountain. Pretty good roads with wide shoulders for most of the route. Section of frontage road between Ina and Tangerine is pretty good with low traffic.

description: Great ride that avoids most of the hilly parts of Tucson. Kolb south of Valencia is a very rough patch of road. The Aviation Bike Path is great to ride on but watch yourself in the intersections, you do not have the Right of Way, traffic in the roadway does. The northern end of Silverbell has no shoulder nor bike lane and may take some skill to ride.

description: This is the 'classic' Shootout ride that I rode on 9/29/2007. This ride was punctuated with a very strong wind from the South, which made the climb up Mission Road and Competition Hill very difficult. However, the ride back on Old Nogales Hwy, was very fast, at over 20 MPH. This ride was written up in Bicycling and has several hosting web sites.

description: This is one of the GABA training rides for both El Tour de Tucson and El Tour de Tucson Mountains, but moved to the starting location for the 'Shootout'. This is basically all of the major portions of El Tour de Tucson Mountains and is great for paceline training.

description: Other than the ongoing road construction on Sandario, this is one long training ride. It is not recommended to ride Sandario alone, but it can be done EARLY in the morning as traffic starts building after 7 a.m.

2007 GABA C/C Rider Training - Third Week

description: "Coach" Corbett did a real nice job with this ride. The hill climbs worked my legs good. The ride from the first stop point to the entrance to Tucson Mountain Park were as a paceline to introduce the concept to the riding group. Otherwise it was a group based ride to get folks used to the distance and to ride up and down the slopes of the highway.
