location: Seattle, Washington distance: 122.64 mi. | Route Type: Bike Ride created by: description: This route actually starts in downtown Seattle at the ferry terminal. Take the ferry to Bremerton to start the ride, then finish at the ferry terminal on Bainbridge Island to return to Seattle. It is long, but mostly flat and very scenic. There are plenty of places to stop for snacks along the way so you can ride light and fast. There is little traffic to worry about and the roads are great. The only hills of note come after you leave the canal around mile 70. It rolls a bit until mile 85, shortly before coming onto the Hood Canal Bridge. If you need a break, take a short detour into historic Port Gamble at the north end of the ride just after crossing the Hood Canal Bridge around mile 99. Enjoy the view sitting under a tree at Port Gamble's historic cemetery. Be sure to turn off on Big Valley Road heading into Poulsbo to avoid highway traffic and to enjoy more country riding. This is an awesome summer ride for long-distance riders. Note: there is another variation of this ride on Mapmyride.com called "Hood Canal Hilly." That ride finishes by going through Port Gamble to Kingston, then takes the ferry back, which arrives in Edmonds. This is a nice variant, but the only downside to that route is all the traffic you have to deal with coming back into downtown from Edmonds.
