Bike Ride Description
Too bad this road is dirt, because it is a monster downhill hidden away out here. N Labadie road has a 210 foot drop with grades approachign 9% on the inital drop. This is road that borders Oakland and Livingston county, hence it was made to run straight and not follow the path of least resistance = less gradual climb so to speak. If this route was paved it would be one of the fastest downhills for road bicyclists in the area. Start out South on a relatively flat section from Stobart Road (which is the southern border of the GM Proving Grounds), then build up some speed before hitting the monster downhill. When I drove it by car, in wintertime, the dirt road looked in decent shape, ie. not washed out. It was graded nice. Still a dirt road is not safe for descending at high speed on a ten-speed style bicycle. Even with a mountain bike its not the safest, should you start to fishtale even a little bit and lose control on the gravel. Probably speeds of 45 to 50 mph on a road bike would be possible if this were paved.
