Run for the Rocks half-marathon
The race will begin in Hutchinson's Carey Park. Carey Park is named for the Carey family who was originally involved in mining salt in Hutchinson. Carey Park houses the Hutchinson Zoo as well as the Carey Park 18-hole golf course and sits alongside the picturesque Arkansas River. After approximately a fast 5K around Carey Park, the course will follow the scenic Jim P. Martinez Trail for the next 3 miles to Rice Park. The Jim P. Martinez Trail is all paved, mostly flat and follows beautifully alongside the Arkansas River and Cow Creek for much of its path. The fun and family friendly Rice Park will be the half-way point and a great place for spectators to cheer on runners. From Rice Park you will enter the charming residential neighborhoods of Old Farm Estates and Hyde Park until reaching the Kansas State Fair Grounds. Runners will enter the Kansas State Fair Grounds running past Lake Talbot and other nostalgic locations like Ye Old Mill, Gottschalk Park and the grandstands before heading down Severance Street. The last sections of the course will take runners past the Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center and Hutchinson Community College to end with a partial lap around the track to cheering crowds in Gowan Stadium. This fast flat and scenic course also features plenty of water stops, great scenery, and convenient spectator locations. - a 13.1 mi running route in Hutchinson, Kansas
